A helpful introduction into using NLP in Consulting practice and what it means to be an Independent Consultant

Carol Harris’s book “Consult Yourself, The NLP Guide to being a Management Consultant” was first published in 2001. While some of the information in the book is somewhat dated as the world has changed significantly with regards to technology, and some of the organisations listed have changed or no longer exist.

However, this book does give you an insight into Management Consultancy and what it really takes to be an Independent Consultant beyond the actual work it explores the peripheral and yet important aspects of self motivation and work winning, and some of the pitfalls when exiting corporate culture and venturing on your own.

It’s easy to read, concise and clear in language. It provides a useful bibliography for each chapter. I would recommend it to anyone considering going into consultancy independently as a thinking tool to explore if you are suited to a career in Management Consultancy. The author draws you in to self analysis and gives lived experiences which broaden your thinking on the role and expectations you may have of Consulting, it’s rather insightful.

This book is great at highlighting how some key NLP tools and techniques can be used both professionally and personally which is hugely helpful if you want to apply your NLP skills in a corporate context.
