I’m a freelance proofreader and copyeditor, which is a solitary, sedentary sort of job so to liven things up a bit I also look after people with learning disabilities, which is the kind of work where anything can happen and frequently does!

After studying French at Edinburgh University I worked in London for various publishing companies. David and I then moved around the country a bit with his job while I was lucky enough to be able to stay at home with our two gorgeous sons, Christopher and Jonathan. I kept my editorial hand in with freelancing here and there along the way. By the time the boys were in double figures age-wise we were in Dorset and I did another degree – Animal Behaviour at Bournemouth – because I love learning and would probably be a perpetual student if I could get away with it. I fancy anthropology or maybe linguistics next time…

With the boys all grown up and happily launched we decided to buck the trend of retiring to Dorset and move in the opposite direction, into a city, to grow old disgracefully. We are doing quite well so far! I love Bristol with all its diversity, energy, creativity and beauty.

Favourite things to do include theatre, cinema and walking. I love wild, empty northern landscapes and although we have travelled a lot and have been to some very special places around the world, my heart will always be in the Scottish islands. My profile photo is me on Lewis in some classic Scottish sunshine!
