Search Rankings

Why do search rankings matter?

The ANLP Member Directory is designed to help potential clients find professional NLP practitioners whose services match their needs.

When someone searches the directory, the order in which profiles appear matters. Profiles that are complete, credible and informative are more useful to visitors and are more likely to encourage them to remain on the website and make contact.

If the first profiles a visitor sees contain little or no information, they may assume that the directory cannot help them and leave the website to look elsewhere.

That is why the directory includes a search weighting system. It gives members the opportunity to influence their position in search results by completing key parts of their profile and demonstrating their professional standing.

This helps ANLP promote members whose profiles give potential clients the information they need to make an informed choice.

What affects my search ranking?

Your position in Member Directory searches is influenced by the number of ranking points attached to your profile.

You can gain points in the following areas:

Profile completion

  • 1–100 points, depending on the percentage of your profile completed

Professional Standards

  • Bronze – 60 points
  • Silver – 70 points
  • Gold – 80 points

Case studies

  • One or more case studies – 50 points
  • No case studies – 0 points

Website and social media links

  • Website link – 20 points
  • Any social media link, including LinkedIn, Facebook or X – 10 points
  • No links – 0 points

The more complete and professionally evidenced your profile is, the stronger your potential position in relevant searches.

How can I improve my position?

Start by reviewing your profile and identifying any sections that are incomplete.

Pay particular attention to:

  • your profile photograph
  • your professional description
  • your specialist skills
  • your website link
  • your social media links
  • your Professional Standards level
  • your case studies

Each completed section adds useful information for potential clients and may also contribute to your ranking points.

Profile completion alone can provide between 1 and 100 points, so even making small improvements can strengthen your overall position.

Case studies are particularly valuable because they help potential clients understand how you work and the kinds of outcomes you have supported. Adding at least one case study gives your profile 50 additional ranking points.

Your Professional Standards level also contributes significantly to your total. Bronze, Silver and Gold recognition demonstrate your commitment to professional development and provide potential clients with additional reassurance.

What difference will it make?

Improving your search ranking can increase the likelihood of your profile appearing higher in relevant Member Directory results.

This can:

  • make your profile more visible to potential clients
  • increase visits to your profile
  • help people understand your services more quickly
  • strengthen confidence in your professional standing
  • create more opportunities for appropriate enquiries
  • support ANLP in promoting professional NLP effectively

The search weighting system is not designed to favour individual members arbitrarily. It rewards the information and professional evidence that make profiles more useful to visitors.

Promoting professional NLP is a central part of ANLP’s remit as the Gold Standard Independent Professional Body for NLP. To do this effectively, we need complete, informative profiles that clearly demonstrate the range and quality of expertise within our membership.
