Mastering the Coach Approach

Module 3: Expanding Your Coaching Impact & Toolkit: Part 1: Advanced Coaching Tools and Techniques Part 2: Coaching, Neuroscience & NLP

22nd - 24th January 2027

Whether you’re a parent, a manager, a leader, or thinking of starting a career in coaching, Mastering the Coach Approach introduces a way of communicating that can transform a life, a team, an organisation – even your family.

What is the Coach Approach and why do you want to master it?

The essence of The Coach Approach is being able to unlock the talent, ability and passion that people have within them.

This is what people pay a coach to do – but you don’t have to be a coach to do it. Good coaching skills can be learned and applied by anyone.

The Coach Approach is great for anyone looking to learn the fundamental principles and communication techniques that go into getting the best results out of individuals. But it’s also ideal for those seeking to take their first steps toward achieving ICF coaching certification.

What makes this programme unique?

  • Running just once a year, Mastering the Coach Approach is run entirely online making it available to you wherever you are in the world, and removing the time and cost of travel and accommodation.
  • Mastering the Coach Approach is made truly unique by our programme leaders: Pamela RichardeIan McDermott, Terrie Lupberger and Professor Patricia Riddell – four renowned Master Coaches from different schools of thought.
  • Lead facilitator Pamela Richarde is a pioneer in the field, and as co-creator of the International Coach Federation’s core coaching competencies has helped shape what we know coaching to be today. A Master Certified Coach (ICF MCC), a Professional Mentor Coach, an ICF Credentialing Assessor, and past President of the ICF Global; you will be learning from the very best (we have to say that as she’ll never say that herself!).
  • You’ll discover how to Master the Coach Approach – by learning how to apply coaching skills in just about any setting to draw the best out of people.
  • ICF Accredited Coach Training Programme – develop the 11 core competencies of coaching whilst establishing your own unique style.
  • Skills-based, real-time, face-to-face practice and learning with expert feedback.
  • Receive an ITS coaching certificate on successful completion of our coaching programmes.

Part 1: Advanced Coaching Tools and Techniques

2 days with Ian McDermott

  • Learn the Gremlins model and how to bring honesty and humour to the shadow side of people and teams.
  • Learn the GROW model and how to move anyone forward.

  • Learn how to generate powerful questions.

Part 2: Coaching, Neuroscience & NLP

1 day with Professor Patricia Riddell and Ian McDermott

The one thing all successful coaching approaches have in common is they trigger changes in the brain. That’s why it makes sense for you to know something about how this happens.

While the coach approach can help anyone better understand their current position and determine how they would like this to change, NLP gives you specific tools to make those changes happen. Neuroscience enhances both these approaches by providing a scientific evidence base for why and how these tools and interventions actually work.

Ian and Patricia will use this day to demonstrate how these three elements – Coaching, NLP and Applied Neuroscience – can be blended together to create a particularly powerful way of working with people whatever your official job description.

  • Learn about the changes that occur in the brain as we learn (or unlearn).
  • Learn more about how coaching, NLP and neuroscience fit together to create a dynamic that is more than the sum of its parts.
  • Learn how to use timelines as part of a coach approach.
  • Learn about neuroplasticity and how it is redefining what is possible for human beings at any stage and any age.
