The Daffodil Principle

Professional recognition grows when responsible practitioners stand together. At ANLP we often describe this as The Daffodil Principle.

NLP has always been a field of remarkable individuals. Practitioners, trainers and specialists working across coaching, therapy, education, leadership and organisational development.

Individually, many NLP professionals achieve outstanding results.

Yet professional recognition is rarely built by individuals alone. Recognition grows when a profession stands together around shared standards, ethics and responsible practice.

Just as a single daffodil is beautiful but easily overlooked, a field of daffodils creates an unmistakable impact.

The same principle applies within professional communities.

When NLP practitioners work in isolation, their work may be excellent — yet largely unseen by the wider public.

When professionals stand together around clear standards, ethical practice and shared credibility, the collective impact becomes visible.

Recognition for NLP is not created by one organisation, one trainer or one school of thought.

It grows when responsible professionals across the field align around principles that protect both the public and the integrity of the discipline.

As the independent professional body for NLP, ANLP exists to support that alignment.

Through ethical standards, professional membership, accreditation and community leadership, we encourage responsible practice and help strengthen the credibility of NLP as a professional discipline.

The philosophy behind the Daffodil Principle echoes a well-known insight often attributed to Aristotle:

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

Psychologist Kurt Koffka later offered an equally powerful refinement:

“The whole is something else than the sum of its parts.”

Both ideas capture the same truth.

A profession becomes stronger when its members stand together.

Individually our members do exceptional work in their respective fields.

Collectively, they help shape the future of NLP as a credible, responsible and recognised professional discipline.

A single daffodil is easily overlooked.
A field of daffodils becomes impossible to ignore.

That is the spirit of the Daffodil Principle.
