Several years ago it occurred to me that I was struggling to explain the concept of being visionary. One particular day comes to mind, when I was facilitating a discussion with a group of managers and leaders from different backgrounds and levels of experience. On a flip chart, we created an impressive looking summary of key words and terms to describe visionary thinking, which included predictable phrases such as ‘big picture’, ‘inspiring’ and ‘empowering’ goals. These terms made sense to all of us, but that is just the problem, what sense did they make?...
