A pocket book punching above it's weight

I must admit that when I first received ‘Introducing Psychology of Success’ by Alison and David Price, for review, I wasn’t particularly bowled over by the look of it. As it is a relatively small book I thought I would zip through it but as I started reading, something strange happened. I found myself drawn in and taking time to reflect on the nuggets of information and doing all of the exercises.

Despite its size, this book manages to encapsulate many of the vital elements of the psychology of success such as setting appropriate and achievable goals, overcoming obstacles and development of self-awareness and strategies in order to attain full potential. The learning was supported by some great easy-to-do exercises, which served to consolidate understanding and promote reflection. I particularly liked the alphabetic A to Z format, which facilitates easy reference.

From a personal perspective, I found that reading ‘Introducing Psychology of Success’ in bite-sized chunks and completing the associated exercises provided a great opportunity for some self-coaching and personal reflection. As an experienced coach, I am used to working with tools and exercises with my clients but rarely take the time to work through them myself. I found this experience to be not only enjoyable but also provided a great opportunity to consider my own development needs as well as my client’s experience of coaching.

Given the size of the book and the relatively low cost, I would definitely consider giving this book to some of my coaching clients as part of their toolkit for facilitating success.
