Fran Burgess, NLP trainer, NLPt psychotherapist and author, with a passion for the DNA of NLP – Modelling

Fran Burgess first came across NLP in 1986 and pursued her learning in the UK, USA, Europe and Indonesia, leading to the founding ,with her husband Derek Jackson, of The Northern School of NLP in 1999.  Noted for its focus on Learning and Modelling, over many years the key international developers in the field of modelling and hypnosis came to the School.

Professionally, Fran’s been a UKCP-registered NLPt psychotherapist and has served on the board of the NLPtCA (Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy & Counselling Association); a founding member of the Professional Guild of NLP, and a regular contributor to major NLP conferences for many years.

One of Fran’s central contributions is her work on NLP modelling – a core but often opaque part of NLP.  In her mind, “Modelling is the fundamental basis for all NLP thinking and practice. It is not an option!”

Working to democratise modelling, she set about finding the simplest descriptions which hold NLP’s thinking, its processes and skills, and universal applications, so that she could teach it to others. In the process, she provided many in-depth models and frameworks to simplify the multiple levels of thought.  This was ultimately encapsulated into The Bumper Bundle Book of Modelling (2011) - “This book should be a foundation text for everyone”. Robert Dilts

Her work isn’t just theoretical — it’s deeply applied. “Find the structure behind a behaviour and you open the door to therapeutic change.  Strengthening the weak elements within a performer’s internal structure can lead to coaching success.  Enabling a learner to adopt their unique version of an effective behavioural model is all part of a teacher or trainer’ goal.”

Fran’s published books are “The NLP Cookbook: 50 Life-Enhancing NLP Techniques for Coaches, Therapists and Trainers” (2011); “The Bumper Bundle Book of Modelling” (2016); “The Bumper Bundle Companion Workbook”,(2016) with exercises and quizzes to build modelling skills; “The Magic Factory “ (2026) focussing on how any NLP professional can create life changing techniques for themselves.

“NLP changed my life so much for the better.  I thrived within its community. I am committed to supporting and strengthening its recognition and ethical practice.”
