I remember, back in the early 1990s I was working with Annie Dalton, who was later to become a Master Trainer. We were running a Practitioner certification with Brian Van der Horst and Eileen Watkins-Seymour (no relation). Annie and I had noticed how tricky it was to pin down issues/problems (used to mean the same hereafter), even with the Meta-Model, and that teaching students to clarify issues was even harder. Problems seem to be like onions with many different layers. The starting issue was usually not the real issue, and we found that unless you had identified the real issue, the effectiveness of changework seemed to decrease....
