Types of NLP Research

NLP as a personal, professional and educational development tool may not require research..and we have some anyway!

Of course, when NLP is being used in a clinical or therapeutic setting, in depth research, including clinical trials, is essential. There are organisations, such as the Research and Recognition Project, that sponsor such research.

In other areas (such as Personal, Organisational and Educational development) narrative evidence, case studies and models are as important and more significant for demonstrating that NLP is an effective solution.

The BCG Matrix (Boston Consulting Group, Bruce Henderson, 1968), for example, is a well respected model used in Management Consulting.  The model was produced by studying (modelling) companies who had mainly done something innovative or well (mostly intuitively) around their product portfolio and carried on doing it because it worked.

Bruce Henderson at Boston Consulting Group, collated this information and produced the model in a simple, visual, 4-quadrant format.

These days, it is adapted depending on the client situation and context...and the underlying principles are the same as in 1968...  The model itself is not questioned.  It works.
