Emmanuel de Haller

As a physicist, curiosity is my engine; NLP the fuel, enabling learning, embodiment, and the ethical sharing of knowledge for the greater good.

Growing up bilingual in Italian and French and educated in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, I developed early sensitivity to language, structure, and meaning. I pursued Mathematics and Physics, earning an MSc in Physics, and completed a PhD in Physics. I later complemented this academic foundation with an MBA.

Alongside my scientific and managerial training, I followed an in-depth path in Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I was trained at NLP University, in Santa Cruz, under the direct guidance of Judith DeLozier and Robert Dilts, and further deepened my practice with NLP Greece under the leadership of Alexandra Efthymiadou. I continued my development in Generative Coaching, including the privilege of attending a module with Robert Dilts and Stephen Gilligan, and ultimately completed the full curriculum of Generative Coaching training under Nathalie Lebas (at Chrysalys).

The red thread of my work is to convey the original NLPU spirit, modeling excellence with rigor, humility, and respect, while keeping alive the ethical foundations of the discipline. My intention is to transmit NLP as it was conceived: as a practice of awareness, responsibility, and generative change, in service of individuals, organizations, and the wider system in which they evolve.

Being retired now, I pursue mandates in healthcare, training & education and assisting surgeons and OR teams, as well as supporting start-ups in their endeavour, sharing my knowledge. In my free time, I find solace in the alpine heights or playing guitar. The mountains offer invaluable lessons, and music offers a soothing balance for the soul.

From Performance to Expression: Exploring the Inner Game of Music

Reviewing: The Inner Game of Music

Having greatly appreciated The Inner Game of Tennis, I approached The Inner Game of Music with curiosity. While sharing the same foundations, the two books differ significantly in scope and emphasis.

One of the enduring strengths of The Inner Game of Tennis is its elegance and simplicity. Timothy Gallwey presents the core concepts of awareness, trust, and the reduction of internal interference in a remarkably concise format. It remains one of the most accessible introductions to what many NLP practitioners would recognise as state management, attentional focus, and the distinction between conscious control and natural learning.

The Inner Game of Music builds on these foundations but explores them in a broader context. Music involves not only technical skill and performance, but also creativity, interpretation, emotional expression, and artistic identity. As a result, Barry Green develops the Inner Game model in greater depth and with a wider range of practical applications.

The book is richly illustrated with examples drawn from musical practice, including notation, repertoire, and performance situations. Consequently, some familiarity with music is beneficial. Readers without a musical background may find certain examples less accessible than those in Gallwey's original tennis-based work.

Nevertheless, the underlying principles extend far beyond music. Green demonstrates how performance is influenced not only by technical competence but also by attention, self-talk, fear, trust, and the relationship between conscious intention and natural ability. These themes will be familiar to coaches, trainers, and NLP practitioners alike.

What makes this book particularly valuable is its exploration of domains where creativity and emotion play a central role. While The Inner Game of Tennis focuses primarily on performance, The Inner Game of Music expands the discussion to include artistic expression and personal development. In doing so, it offers a richer perspective on how individuals can learn, perform, and create at their best.

For musicians, this book is far more than highly recommended.
For NLP practitioners and coaches, it provides an insightful extension of Gallwey's original work and a valuable reminder that the most significant obstacles to excellence are often internal rather than external.

This is the personal page of Emmanuel de Haller who is accredited by ANLP.

As an NLP Trainer, I place particular emphasis on an individualised approach to learning, with a strong focus on each participant as a person. To support this, my trainings are intentionally limited to small groups, creating the conditions for depth, precision, and a high-quality learning experience that aligns with participants’ expectations and aspirations.

In addition to small-group formats, I also offer one-to-one NLP Practitioner training. This allows for highly targeted learning, delivering knowledge and skills exactly where and when they are needed. I recognise that those who seek training often balance complex professional and personal commitments, and that conventional training structures do not always fit easily into their lives.

My intention is therefore to create flexible training opportunities, including in contexts where individuals might otherwise feel that no suitable option exists. Through this flexibility and individualised approach, I aim to carry forward and embody the spirit of the NLPU, bringing it to where it can have the greatest impact.
