It is an ideal introduction to NLP through bite-sized exercises with brief outlines of the models. I have lost track of how many people I have recommended this to as a great primer. The writing style is accessible for NLP 'newbies' and those with more experience - it is one book I wouldn't be without when talking about NLP who have an initial interest in the subject.
