Social Impact of NLP

How ANLP are measuring the Social Impact of NLP and how we can raise NLP awareness and standards

Social Impact of NLP

Social impact is “the effect an organisation’s actions have on the well-being of the community”. So as you can imagine, with something like NLP, this is hard to measure at the best of times, and yet it is significant, especially when we claim that NLP can be ‘the difference that makes the difference’.

As a Community Interest Company, one of our roles is to gather information to indicate the social impact NLP has on society. We are starting to do this more effectively by collecting and collating information from you – where NLP has made a difference in your life or in the lives of your friends and family; where you have used your NLP skills to make a difference to an individual or group; where you have given your services freely to support individuals or groups in your local community…

…and by doing so, identifying where your actions have made a difference to those people.

For example, ANLP member, Ron Piper, has been delivering an ‘NLP for Teachers’ programme in local schools. What he did was deliver some basic NLP skills training to a group of teachers – skills which can be applied in a number of different ways.

He reported that, "The teacher feedback from the recently completed NLP for Teachers Diploma evening class has been overwhelmingly positive with many of the group reporting that the programme has already positively impacted on classroom practice."

Several teachers have said that they are thinking about their pedagogy and practice entirely differently with the result that students’ classroom experiences are being greatly enhanced.

So one of the social impacts from NLP in this scenario is that the students, as well as the teachers, are benefitting from a greatly enhanced classroom experience.

The NLP Awards are another great example of honouring where NLP is really making a difference in society - you can read more about the NLP Awards on our dedicated site.

ANLP are also working with Hertfordshire Univeristy to develop methods for collecting and collating narrative evidence to demonstrate where NLP is making an impact in people's lives.
