Ian McDermott is a Member of the ANLP Council of Generative Wisdom and is the NLP Specialist Envoy for Organisational Development.

Ian has worked with hundreds of organisations and thousands of professionals globally. Based in the UK and the US, he spends much of his time advising senior leaders worldwide and coaching the next generation to be responsible and innovative leaders. 

He is an Honorary Fellow of Exeter University Business School where his focus is on entrepreneurship and innovation. His work is featured in the Open University’s MBA course ‘Creativity, Innovation and Change’ and he is External Faculty at Henley Business School where he helped create the MSc. in Coaching and Behavioural Change. He is also a UKCP Accredited Psychotherapist.

Ian is Founder of International Teaching Seminars – www.itsnlp.com - which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. The mission of ITS is to give individuals, firms and families the skills to innovate their own solutions. It does this through a raft of public programmes plus in-house training, consultancy and coaching.

In the US Ian is Dean of Innovation and Learning for the Purposeful Planning Institute where for the last ten years he has worked with thousands of advisors to HNW and UHNW families, giving them the tools - and the wisdom - to deal successfully with Legacy, Succession Planning and cross-generational issues. 

Ian pioneered bringing NLP and Coaching together, wrote The NLP Coach and established NLP Coaching with the International Coach Federation. He has trained a generation of coaches, is a member of the Association for Coaching's Global Advisory Panel and is AC Global Ambassador for Innovation and Collaboration.

A thought leader in the field of innovation and leadership Ian is the father of the Coach Approach to Leadership. This makes it possible for anyone to learn how to draw the best out of others and foster a learning culture – be it in a team, a family or a business. 

For the past decade, Ian has been pioneering integrating neuroscience and NLP.  He and Professor of Applied Neuroscience, Patricia Riddell, have created Applied Neuroscience programmes for individuals, teams and organisations.

Ian has written fifteen books that have been translated into over twenty languages. They include The Art of Systems Thinking, The Coaching Bible, Boost Your Confidence with NLP and 'The Collaborative Leader: The Ultimate Leadership Challenge'.
