Recently, while heading to a meeting where someone was going to read my work, say, ‘No, no, no’ a lot and also give me lots of valuable feedback to improve it, I realised that, for all my gratitude, feedback really can feel like failure. I am used to having my writing judged. But having never been a staff journalist, I am rarely there at the time. It is hardly X Factor, but it is hard to sit there, looking – and being – open to wise words without flinching at the criticism....
