In early March 2020, Melody and Joe sensed that the ‘new virus strain’ was not going away… and counter to the British “It’ll be fine” culture, they closed their doors (about two weeks before the first lockdown). They were both concerned how it would affect business, but they wanted neither to contract the virus nor pass it on to others. Joe’s decision was made on a packed train, coming home from running a training course for a care home in London, when he realised: “What if I became the spreader, taking the virus from one company to another?” Melody’s side of the business involved people attending training at their home, so this felt too risky to continue....
