With a population of around 15,000 the Tai Khamtis are one of the smallest ethnic groups, in real danger of extinction. The younger generation are losing interest in the community and are moving out to greener pastures. There are scant human resources to maintain the ethnic community, literature and culture. Most importantly, people in this area are typically opium-addicted, with intermarriage still common. Teenagers are not well exposed and are shy to come out and speak in public....
