My son Rowan was diagnosed as a small boy as having Aspergers Syndrome, a condition currently classifi ed as a sub-type on the autism spectrum. Autism is characterised by a triad of impairments including difficulties in communication and social interaction along with inflexibility and repetitiveness in activities and interests. People on the spectrum face many challenges, including perceptual diffi culties, hyper / hyposensitivity, social awkwardness and misreading non-verbal communication. Neither a sickness nor a mental illness, it's is a lifelong condition, but with the right coaching and support individuals on the autistic spectrum can lead fulfi lled lives....
