This paradoxical situation is the main theme of my book The Significance Delusion and inevitably the solution to it takes some explaining. However for the good of all, and particularly our kids, it’s worth making the effort. So, to sum up the message of my book: our species seems to be genetically preprogrammed to search for meaning and connections between things. We have become used to thinking that life should matter and have meaning, and very importantly, that we, as individuals, should also matter and have meaning.
