Back to ANLP Internationally Share Tweet LinkedIn Pin As of 2021, the NLP coaching market in Japan is estimated to be worth around 4 billion yen, with further expansion predicted. According to the "Survey on the Increase in NLP Coaching" by Recruit Career, the average annual growth rate is expected to be approximately 11% until 2025. This presents an ideal opportunity to become a professional in NLP, as demand for these skills continues to increase. By acquiring the necessary knowledge and expertise, you can not only transform your own life but also help others achieve their goals. As of December 2024, there are no specific regulations relating to NLP in Japan. As long as you do not engage in behaviour that violates the law, you should not face any legal issues. While there are no formal regulations governing the practice of NLP coaching or training in Japan, it is beneficial to establish a business as a sole trader or company and become a member of NLP coaching organisations, such as ANLP, to build trust and credibility with potential clients. Japan does not require any government, legal, or authority approval for individuals to become NLP professionals. This is because NLP is not classified as a mental health field, such as psychotherapy or counselling, but rather as a set of techniques focused on communication and personal development. However, it is highly recommended for aspiring NLP professionals to obtain specialised training and certification programs accredited by professional NLP bodies like ANLP to enhance their skills and knowledge. There is also no legal requirement for insurance to practice NLP in Japan. However, running a business involves certain risks. Although Japan does not mandate corporate insurance to cover business-related risks, it is advisable to consider public liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance, and/or business continuity insurance, depending on your business model and needs. ANLP-accredited programs cover not only how to interact with clients effectively but also other essential business skills. It is advisable to acquire as much knowledge and skill as possible before beginning your practice as an NLP professional. If you search for NLP on the Japanese internet, you may come across unsettling topics such as dubious, dangerous, or cult-like reputations. The main criticisms tend to revolve around the high cost of attending NLP courses and coaching, the difficulty in perceiving tangible benefits, and the association some people make with new religions or cults. While there are certainly some malicious coaches and questionable training courses, this issue is not unique to NLP. The key is to ensure that the coach or training course you choose is trustworthy. Coaches and trainers who belong to professional NLP associations and adhere to their code of ethics demonstrate a commitment to sharing their NLP skills, knowledge, and experience for positive, ethical purposes.
