Vivienne is an amazing NLP Trainer!

Training in NLP to Master Practioner level was an incredible experience. Viv is compassionate, honest, highly intelligent, never ever judgmental and 100% the real deal, Viv walks the talk. This is training that has changed my life in so many ways for the better. To say I learned a lot simply doesn't do it justice. If you are looking for NLP training you have probably already learned how noisy a market it is, and it can be difficult to know the difference between the good and the mediocre - Viv's training is exceptional and outstanding for a number of reasons; Viv perfectly tailors the content and delivery to suit each person, you leave every day 100% clear on your progress and how you can adapt to be even better, she hold's you accountable with compassion and never ever any judgement, she is seriously intelligent and experienced, and for me, the most important aspect would be Viv's values, the reasons why she trains people in NLP are to do with an authentic desire to see people flourish. You simply will not get better than Viv and Coaching and Mentoring Services.

Coaching supervision at its BEST by Jackie Arnold

Reviewing: Coaching Supervision at its B.E.S.T.

Jackie Arnold is clearly an experienced coaching supervisor who brings her practical experience to provide excellent examples of some of the frameworks she is describing. The book is full of useful resources whether you are interested in supervision in coaching, and also supervision in its wider sense. Experienced coaches will find models they are familiar with and at times it’s easy to forget whether the book is about coaching or supervision. That makes this book an ideal read for coaches too.

There is a great deal of emphasis on clean language, clearly a passion of the the author, and she also provides some great insight and examples of using clean spaces, which I think I’ll be using more of in my coaching. Although the book seems to be primarily written with internal coach supervisors in mind the author also draws reference to wider uses of the tools and it is evident how these could be useful particularly for executive coaching, and those working with senior leaders in an organisation.

A great resource, and one I’m happy to have on the shelf for future reference, the book at times feels written strongly from the perspective of supervision of coaches working within an organisation, where conflict with their role may exist, and from time to time that affected the flow of the writing. For me, the BEST brought little additional value to the book beyond an excellent title, and ironically would have been better it if was ‘best’ and not ‘BEST’

The Answer Within by Stephen and Carol Lankton

Reviewing: Answer Within

Described as a clinical framework of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy the book is very much an academic description of the language patterns and structures used by Milton Erickson. And yet within the technical descriptions are interwoven some of the transcripts of metaphors used, and the context of the therapeutic intervention, which are a joy to read.

This book is written for those who already have a good understanding of hypnosis, and interested in understanding the structure of the metaphors employed by Erickson. The explanations are written in detail, and can feel like a challenging read at times. However just as you are on the verge of leaving it for another day the case studies and metaphor transcripts brings it back to life.

From the authors' descriptions of Erickson's work you get a real sense of what Bandler and Grinder observed as they did their modelling for NLP. You are left with a deeper understanding of those language patterns and a real sense of how Erickson was a master of reframing, coupled with his provocative style. So whilst its not a book for the faint hearted, it is a book worth persevering with.

Clearly written practical guide to NLP in the classroom

Reviewing: NLP for Teachers: How to Be a Highly Effective Teacher

The book brings an excellent balance of clearly written explanations, with straightforward practical tools that can be used immediately. And what makes this book stand out from many others on the market is the Research Zone. An important addition for education professionals to be able to easily find out about more of the emerging evidence behind the techniques of NLP. The authors have really considered the value and use of NLP from the perspective of the teacher, and what will make a difference to their practice in the classroom. The strategies for supporting behaviour management will be of particular interest to many teachers. The reminder that an addiction to negative attention can emerge in the absence of positive attention.

As a trainer of NLP I found I warmed to content from the honest comment of 'NLP - what a terrible name', and it is. Sometimes it can seem like the biggest barrier to overcome, so well done for getting it out of the way. The emphasis on rapport, and state management, is so important and can be easily overlooked in the classroom. The simplest concepts are so often the most powerful - what you teach is what you get. As the needs of learners in the classroom become more complex this guide for teachers offers the opportunity to add a range of powerful tools to support learning and behaviour strategies. And with tools at the end to suggest how the reader can deliver their own instant training day, makes the book an excellent investment.
