What is ‘Normal’? Neurodiversity, NLP in Education, NLP for Health

As with many of our Community Café chats, the conversation starts at a surface level and dives deep pretty quickly!

With two new attendees amongst the three ANLP team members and a regular Café attendee, the discussion moved from introductions and pleasantries to the use of NLP in various environments and where it could assist… Healthcare is one area.  The “getting NLP into Education” part of the discussion centred around how to allow the teaching faculty, the development of the syllabus, the parents, and the perception of the outcomes for each student to be viewed from different perspectives.  An exercise in perceptual positions, perhaps?

Gaining a better understanding of neurodiversity in education and being more cognisant that there is a ‘spectrum’ of neurodiversity… a range of challenges that people face in their everyday lives that we can be more aware of with NLP training and skills.

Richard Feynman, the Theoretical Physicist and Novel Prize Winner was quoted as saying

“Of the four billion people on the planet [1975], one person may fit the numbers for being ‘average’ for a second… and then they will change and no longer be average…”.

In the light of that thinking, what does “average” or “normal” mean?  What does “neuro-diverse” mean… because aren’t we all neuro-diverse to some degree?

The outcome of (another) fantastic discussion was that we all felt the call of getting NLP into more areas of the Education system and the ANLP project, ‘NLP in Education’ is working towards this goal.  You can find out more by searching for NLP in Education on the ANLP website.
