The challenge

This case study has been written by my client and is posted with their approval. To protect their confidentiality, I will refer to my client as Annabel (not her real name).

Annabel worked as a stewardess on luxury yachts, travelling around the globe enjoying a heady, high-octane lifestyle.

She came to me because her Yoga teacher had recommended me.

She had just broken up with her French boyfriend, and was feeling tired and unmotivated.

The effect

Annabel’s ‘rejection’ by her boyfriend had hit her hard.

Unresolved feelings from her childhood emerged, most of which she’d been unaware of.

Annabel noticed a habitually critical internal voice, which she had also not been aware of previously.

She had difficulty relaxing and tended to drink too much alcohol – readily available in her work environment – to help with this.

Solution

We worked together in person in Bristol, one-to-one, over five days. This unusual arrangement suited Annabel’s schedule and I was able to accommodate it.

Annabel was a real ‘foodie’, and every day we had lunch together, sampling food from a different country of origin each time.

It was a kind of refreshing retreat-style holiday for Annabel as well as an opportunity for her to make a thorough audit of her situation.

Annabel’s capacity for personal work astonished me: we took the opportunity to explore every aspect of her life – physically, socially, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

We considered her lifestyle, habits, relationships, health, recreation and career... in the past, the present and the future.

I used The Outcome Frame, Timelines, Re-imprinting, Family Constellations, Coaching Cards, Metaphor, Reframing and some of Steve Andreas’ work on Inner Dialogue.

Result

Annabel recovered her joy!

She returned to her work both revitalised and relaxed.

She’s aware of her long-term plans for home and family, but is not in a rush!

She said ‘I feel like I have come back to myself’.
