When was the last time you were really angry? I mean seeing red, spitting feathers, seething with rage? Chances are, you didn’t stay angry for long because we consistently hear that we must ‘manage our state’. We are told to ‘calm down’ or ‘count to ten’. I have even been known to say, “I don’t do anger.” There is plenty of logic in not boiling over in front of clients or over-reacting in ways that could damage your reputation. Being positive and calm in a crisis are excellent skills, and we can help clients a lot more effectively when we are in control of our own emotional state.
