After smoking for more than 50 years, health issues and a fear of dying, JM decided to quit by using NLP and Hypnotherapy.

One Session to Quit Smoking After 50 years.

The challenge

JM has been diagnosed with COPD. The symptoms left her breathless and constantly coughing. They had smoked since they were about 8 years old and knew that if they continued it would kill them.

They had tried hypnotherapy in the past which worked for a few weeks, then something caused them to start smoking again.

Their anxiety had increased recently due to their symptoms and not wanting to die.

The effect

JM was unable to take part in activities with their family which was causing them a great deal of upset.

They had always thought that smoking had taken the edge off their anxiety, however lately they had realised that this was not the case, it was in fact adding to it, especially as they now feared dying and was missing out on precious time with their family and friends.

They knew that COPD had no cure, however they had noticed that smoking was aggravating their symptoms and they knew that over time this would only increase, limiting their life even more. The end result would be death.

Solution

JM’s intention to quit was high which meant they only needed a 1 x 2 hour session.

Initially they were quite nervous so I took some time to calm their nerves using NLP, once they were in a more settled and resourceful state I worked on changing how the smell of smoke would evoke a craving for a cigarette.

I established how they felt, what it smelt and tasted like when putting a cigarette to their mouth and then changed the feeling, small and taste to one of repulsion. I supported this with helping them to create how they wanted to behave instead when the urge to smoke arose.

I had obtained information from JM prior to the session and used this to write personalised sections into a hypnotic trance, which I finished the session with.

During the hypnosis they did cough quite a lot, we had to stop for them to have a drink. It was as though their mind wanted to reject the concept of smoke.

Result

JM contacted me 6 weeks after our session explaining that they had initially not felt like the process had worked, they had not felt hypnotised. However, to their surprises and happiness, it had worked, they had not smoked for 6 weeks.

I’ve had several other messages from them as they reached milestones such as 3 and 6 months to say they are still not smoking.

In their review they wrote:

“It was the best money I’ve spent ever and I would recommend this lady all day long I used to also smoke weed and even stopped that. I feel so much better and probably will have a few more extra years than I did before, so thank you Emma.”
