Since that day I have become a complete convert!

The challenge

This case study has been written by my client and is posted with their approval. To protect their confidentiality, I will refer to my client as Helen (not her real name).

My first session of one-to-one NLP with Elizabeth was more than 16 years ago when I was just 18. I had dropped out of college and was wondering what on earth I was going to do next. Elizabeth was recommended to me by a close friend. I decided to give it a go as I was feeling 'stuck' and felt reassured that Elizabeth would help me find a way forward and feel a bit more positive again.

The effect

I am pleased to say that it worked and since that day I have become a complete convert! NLP has been very effective during difficult stages of my life. It is the most useful resource I have come across to swiftly change my mindset and help me feel motivated again.

This first experience of NLP was an intensive personal strategy course spread over three days and it was the first time I had come across a method like it. I had suffered some periods of mental ill-health through my teens and did mention this to Elizabeth. Luckily this didn't phase her and she seemed upbeat about my prospects. I remember her writing down lots of notes on flip charts, brainstorming ideas, and guiding me through various different exercises and visualisations. These included topics such as the kinds of things I would like to do and think, who and what I aspired to, what I actually enjoyed, and the things I wanted to overcome. What I remember the most though is actually finding it fun!

Solution

I had never initially considered NLP as I had always been under the impression that counselling and psychotherapy were the way forward. I have found NLP to be so refreshing and a great complement to traditional approaches. It focuses on the here and now, and from the get-go, you asked about what you really want in life and where you want your life to go.

When asked about whether NLP is difficult or uncomfortable I would say that it isn't easy; it is in-depth and intense, but the rewards far outweigh the effort put in. Each time that I have participated in NLP, I have come away with a new lease of life and a fresh perspective on things. It has really helped me over the years and I am so thankful to Elizabeth. She has asked the right questions and prompted me to find answers so that could steer myself through some difficult patches. The result has been a feeling of being more clear-headed and in control, with the tools to achieve what I intended to, whether this is to develop more fulfilling relationships, become more assertive, or succeed at work.

Result

'Since my initial experience of NLP I have called on Elizabeth several times and more recently (due to the pandemic and my location), this has involved some telephone consultations over three months. These have acted as a means of helping me get back on track when I felt stressed, confused, and unclear. After talking through my situation and what I was looking to gain in the next five years, solutions were identified and I was able to see things differently. I found practical answers that seemed so straightforward in hindsight! Following on from this I've felt a lot more confident to tackle a range of things. I think the person who you work with is really important and I have always felt comfortable and safe.  I cannot recommend Elizabeth enough and hope to work with her again in the future.'
