She would obsessively eat 3-4 bars of chocolate per day but didn’t understand why. She had quit smoking without too much effort but was unable to shift the need for chocolate. The effect Eating 3-4 bars of chocolate per day has one obvious effect. There was also the feeling of being a victim to the obsession rather than a master of it. Solution As we were in an office environment I used conversational techniques. It was an impromptu session. The six-step reframe very quickly allowed her to realise that she associated chocolate with relaxing. She also associated driving with relaxing. Once we got to that point I simply looked at her and smiled. The “Aha” moment was quite profound. A few tests of future events and she was absolutely convinced. The whole process took 10 to 15 minutes. I checked with her after about 8 months and she had not eaten any chocolate since, because she just didn’t want to. Result “I wouldn`t say I was addicted to chocolate, more obsessive. I have conquered smoking without too much effort but somehow giving up chocolate was beyond me. Duncan just talked to me and in a very subtle way helped me understand where the motivation came from. From that one session, I have not felt the need and I no longer even enjoy eating chocolate and I don`t miss it. Brilliant“ Duncan Batchelor
