Volunteer Strategy

Clear definition will be given on the roles and responsibilities of volunteers, including relevant knowledge, security, safety, support and a clear code of conduct.

Clear definition will be given on the roles and responsibilities of volunteers. This will include relevant knowledge, security and safety, support and a clear code of conduct. Where possible/relevant a training needs analysis for volunteers will be undertaken.

A strategy will be developed for volunteers that recognise the range of requirements and their needs. This will include basic training to enable all volunteers to properly undertake their role.

Further, training programmes and pathways will be developed (where possible using available training provisions) to assist those individuals with additional training needs.

A structure of volunteers and volunteer supervisors will be developed, and this will be supported when a sufficient number of volunteers are recruited and when organisational structure allows.

An assessment of the optimum number of volunteers required to support the organisation will inform the strategy.

A culture will be established by the organisation that acknowledges the Importance of volunteering.

Where possible the organisation will ensure the appropriate involvement of volunteers at all relevant stages.

Where possible the organisation will support complementary programmes of training and skills development.

Volunteers will be sought from multiple sources and a procedure will be developed for volunteers to source additional volunteers where necessary and appropriate.
